Book Launch | Justice for Ourselves: Black Virginians Claim Their Freedom After Slavery
Historians and editors John G. Deal, Marianne E. Our society is so close to total collapse. This woman is a buffoon. Her profession is to lie to herself and others. What’s the point of recognizing evils in the past if you’re utterly blind and subservient to evil in the present. 🥴🤤

One of the inmates in Russ's book was my direct supervisor in the US Navy. Lt. Andrew Charbrol. I worked at Norfolk/Optevfor in the master at arms office. Charbrol was my supervisor for a year and his office was about 20 feet from mine. One time I made a mistake and did something I should not have done. Lt. Charbrol took my mistake and made it a personal offense against him. He told me that growing up in the Virgin Islands in elementary school that a classmate took an eraser from him and he, "went berserk" on the kid until the kid relented, and was basically unconscious. If I were female, I probably would've ended up dead at his hands, somehow. I found the information on his crimes and execution accidentally. I was surprised that all of this had occurred, but not surprised that he could do something like this. 😮😮 I wish I could talk with Russ and find out how the bad lieutenant was in his final time on earth. I ordered the book and should get it in a few days. I can only imagine how life must be for Charbrol's, former wife and sons. he certainly left a tremendous amount of damage for people to deal with for years to come....contact: scotttish@protonmail.com

The British did the same as the North did during the Civil War. They used African Americans for their benefit but no more cared for blacks than the average slave traders. The people of the South actually cared for the blacks more so than either one of them. In the southern companies blacks at least had a place and in many instances they were as much a part of the southern family as anyone. Even the President of the Confederacy new slavery was not going to last and wanted his slaves to be educated, so they could do for themselves as everyone did. Stonewall Jackson even funded schools for black children in order to educate them in ready writing and math

In 1783, 40,000 African American loyalists and 20,000 White loyalists left the United States and made new successful lives for themselves in Bermuda, the Bahamas, England, and Canada. The real tragedy of the American Revolutionary War was that slaveowners such ascGeorge Washington and Thomas Jefferson were even allowed to have any kind of position in the military and on government. They should have been included in a settlement package deal that would enable them to be industrious middle class people, and at the same time banned from all government, military, and education positions and from all political parties.

Hello, this exhibit is no longer on display at the Library of Virginia. However, the records themselves are accessible on the Library's sites. Please review the LibGuide, which provides information about the documents and helpful search tips (lva-virginia.libguides.com/WWI). The WWI History Commission Questionnaires are currently being transcribed on From the Page here: fromthepage.com/lva/wwi-va-questionnaires. You can search by name for your father or, since transcription is not yet complete, check the location he was from. Keep in mind that not all returning soldiers filled out these questionnaires. You might like to attend the upcoming Military Genealogy workshop (lva-virginia.libcal.com/event/10177204) or email the Archives Reference Desk (archdesk@lva.virginia.gov) for assistance locating other records.
